Amidst the challenges being experienced today in our Oakland neighborhoods it´s good to remember the positive spirit of leaders like Jose. May that spirit inspire us today in his remembrance.

Jose opened doors of opportunity for other Latinos whenever he could. In his early years at the Port he made sure to spread the word of the Port’s “intern” experience for high school youth to visit during the summer their “sister port” in Japan. We helped a young Latina leader apply and she became the first Latina to be accepted. Jose was at the fundraiser we organized at my home to make sure she had luggage and clothes for her trip. Jose was a great guy, always cheerful, and willing to help people and connect people. He will be missed. Best wishes to his family and friends.

We're all going to miss you cousin.

I only had an opportunity to work with Jose for a short time. It sadden me to hear about his passing. Sending support to his children, Nicolas and Annlisa. Blessings.
