1924-2017
Jose (Joe) F. Mercado of Houston, TX died October 22, 2017. Born December 14, 1924 to parents Francisco and Petra Mercado. Graduated from Martin High School in Laredo, TX and St. Edwards University in Austin, TX. Proudly served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII from July 1943 to March 1946. After graduation he married Frances Navarro and began his teaching career with the Laredo Independent School District. He moved his family to Houston TX in 1963 where he taught and retired from the Pasadena Independent School District. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Frances N. Mercado, parents Francisco and Petra Mercado, sisters Pat Mercado and Rita Rodriguez and nephew Richard Rodriguez. Survived by son and daughter in law Joe and Leila Mercado, daughter and son in law Ana Laura and Steve Sicola and most loved and cherished grandsons Steven Ross Sicola and Vincent Kyle Sicola. Funeral Mass will be held at South Houston Funeral Home, Thursday November 2, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. Burial services will be held in Laredo TX at a later date.
My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

He taught me Spanish in grades 6, 7 & 8 at Miller Intermediate in the 70's. One year he brought in a tv so that we could watch the World Series! I appreciated him for that. Descansa en paz, Sr. Mercado.
