Jose Retana went to be with the Lord on June 26, 2016 at the age of 72. He will be remembered as a hardworking, strong, compassionate, loving and devoted son, brother and uncle. He left a legacy of integrity, honesty and valued character. His love for the Lord never wavered throughout his life. He trusted God in everything he did whether it turned out the way he wanted it to or not. He was very charitable to the needs of the church and others.
Jose was born on September 28, 1943 in Midland, Texas to Guerrero Retana and Petra Perez. He was educated in Midland, Texas. He worked various jobs throughout his life. His most notable places of employment were King Bee Drive Inn where he worked for approximately 20 years and Thompson Van Lines where he worked for over 15 years.
Jose loved to spend time with his family. He enjoyed cooking for his family and spending quality time together. He loved to play the guitar and sing on his spare time and watching his favorite football team, The Dallas Cowboys. After he retired from the workforce he grew a passion for gardening.
Family was very important to Jose. The love of his life was his family. He was totally devoted to his mother, sister, brothers, nieces and nephews who called him "Uncle Joe." His friends also held a special place in his heart especially his best friend Toby.
He is survived by his loving sister Gloria Zepeda from Midland, two brothers Juan Lerma and his wife Lupe from Odessa, Meregildo "Junior" Reyes and his wife Anna from Midland and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Angel and Bruno Reyes and brother-in-law Jimmy Zepeda Sr., all from Midland, Texas.
On behalf of Jose Retana's family we would like to express our most sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Gibson and Dr. Pham for their dedicated work, compassion, and tireless care towards Jose. Also the family would like to express our appreciation and recognize Midland Memorial Hospital Staff and Hospice of Midland for their love and care.
A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Felix Archibong officiating. Burial will follow at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
