Hillcrest Funeral Home Burial Park & Cremations - San Antonio Obituary

Our beloved Jose Angel Villarreal Jr. passed away August 20, 2022 and is now in the loving arms of the
Lord. He was born on June 16, 1972, in San Antonio, Texas to Jose Angel Villarreal and Lupita Villarreal.
Jose “Joey” is preceded in death by his uncle, Gilbert Martinez, and brother-in-law Freddy Martinez and
their Twins who passed 08/08/08. He is survived by his parents, his wife of 24 wonderful years, Michele
Villarreal; daughters, Emerald Villarreal, and Victoria Marie Maldonado; sons, Jose Villarreal III (Adriana),
Raeden Villarreal, Jonathan Maldonado, and Gabriel Fuentes (Leslie); grandchildren, Jonathan Ikaika,
Juziah, Xayvier, Xayden, Xaylie, and Lianna Marie; sisters Grace Martinez (Freddy-deceased), Christina
Adames (Lupe), and Michelle Reynosa; numerous nieces and nephews.
Joey had many accomplishments throughout his life, he graduated from Judson high school. He went on
to achieve his dream of becoming a Bexar County sheriff. He studied diligently and trained rigorously in
physical training to achieve graduation from the Bexar County Sheriffs Academy. He also attended San
Antonio College to attain his certification for commercial driver’s license and received his certification to
further his career with the City of San Antonio, from where he retired.
Joey has always reminded us of so many wonderful things about life, especially laughter and what it
means to fight for what is dear to our hearts. Not so much a fight in a physical sense, but in the sense
that he wanted to fight for what he cherished – his beloved wife, his children, his sisters, his family, and
friends. When it comes to laughter no one was more ready and willing to crack the first joke. Even jokes
that involved family members. He spared no one. Laughter for him could come at anyone’s expense,
even his own expense, and everyone loved it. There was never a dull moment with Joey. Up until his
very last breath he was making us laugh.
Joey is a man of God with a heart of gold, he would give the shirt off his back to someone who would
need it. He frequently helped the homeless.
Joey was a hardworking leader at work. He was always commended for doing such a great job.
In his free time, he liked working out, playing football and basketball. He believed that it was very
important to always stay active.
In Joey’s boxing days he received the title of golden gloves.
Joey loved to do yard work and took great pride in keeping his yard looking good.
Joey loved to play pool, 3 card poker, sing and dance.
He loved to make money… He was the best at doing that and we all know that!
After being diagnosed with cancer his doctors gave him the news that his time on earth would soon
come to an end. He was told he had up to three months to live. Well, as we now know those three
months became almost four years. And that’s not by chance It was Joey’s will, determination, the love
and support of his loving Wife, Michele, his mom and dad and the love for his children, family and
friends, and his adoration for God. This man is the strongest, most amazing person we know. He fought
like a warrior. His will to survive was like no other person, he always was positive and had hope
throughout it all.
May your beautiful gentle soul continue to rest. Always in our minds, Forever in our hearts.
