Joseph J. Abate Jr.

FLORIDA: Joseph James Abate Jr., age 76, of Titusville, FL, entered eternal rest on November 1, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of ten years to Jean Chmely. 

     Joseph was born in Derby on February 10, 1947, son of the late Joseph and Helen Abate. He was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, and the Italian American Club. Joseph was a jack of all trades who enjoyed tinkering with engines and wood working. His hobbies included gardening, hunting, and fishing. 

     In addition to his wife Jean, Joseph leaves to cherish his memory, sisters, Joyce Harris, and Phyllis Proch (John), brothers, Paul Abate (Tess), Ralph Abate, Ronald Abate (Colleen) and Mark Abate (Cynthia), along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Sharon Abate and his brother, Louis Abate. 

     A committal service in celebration of Joseph’s life will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 1:30 pm at Mount Saint Peter Mausoleum in Derby. The SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, has been privileged with the local arrangements.
