Joseph Amato Obituary

Joseph F. Amato
Joseph F. Amato, 99, of Norwalk, CT, proud father and WWII veteran, passed away on Memorial Day, May 27, 2024 in Fairfield.
Joe was born in Norwalk on November 4, 1924 to Anthony and Anna Amato. After attending Norwalk schools, he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country in the Philippines until the war ended in 1945. He returned to Norwalk and later married Carolyn Waterbury on July 7, 1951 at St. Mary's Church on West Avenue. Joe was a skilled plaster/stone mason who created works of art on and in buildings in Norwalk and surrounding towns. Joe loved the Yankees, Giants, and UConn girls basketball team. He enjoyed painting landscapes with his beloved oil paints, being on or in the Long Island Sound, and growing lots and lots of vegetables in his expansive garden.
Joe is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn, his parents, Anthony and Anna, his brothers, Sam and Tony.
Joe is survived by daughters Patricia Peterson (Charlie), Joyce Horne (David) and Susan Price (Dave). In addition, Joe was blessed with five grandchildren: Amy, Kayla, Joey, Meghan and Ken, as well as four great-grandchildren: Austin, Carter, Blake and Kyle. A Mass of Christian burial will be held this Friday, May 31st, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Church, 216 Scribner Avenue in Norwalk. Burial will follow immediately after the service at St. John's Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, also in Norwalk. Arrangements were made by Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son of Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Joseph's honor. www.spadaccinofuneralhome.com to leave an online condolence
