Another anniversary of Joe’s death is coming up. Even though I had only met Joe twice I still think about him til this day! I have a picture of him on my refrigerator. So I can remember what his service to our country means. He gave his life too keep us safe. God bless his family and friends .

I knew Joe during our time at the University of Cincinnati. He was such a genuinely kind, positive and happy person. I will always remember Joe and his ultimate sacrifice for freedom in the world.

Joe was honored today in Charleston, IL, at "Run for the Fallen." Last year, a young ROTC cadet ran for Joe. I told that young man several stories about Joe; my favorite memory is hearing the heavy crunch of footsteps in the gravel behind me…not many passed me in those days, and Joe was bigger than me…I remember Joe's grin as he ran past, and gave a little wave.
