Joseph Daniel Annino, 104, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ruth (Berlin) and their loving son Robert. Joe was the son of Samuel V. and Mary (Eldridge) Annino. He is survived by his sons Richard and his wife Joanne of Edgecomb, ME, Joshua and his wife Veda of Reston, VA and daughters Jean Raad and her husband Edward of East Hampton, CT and Carol Noonan and her husband Robert of Springfield; a daughter-in-law Eugenia Steger and her husband Jeffrey of Beaufort, SC. He cherished his eleven grandchildren Michael Annino, Amy Monko, Rob Annino, Laura Annino, Brian Annino, Christopher Raad, Wendy Raad, Courtney Tomaszewicz, Kyle Noonan and Emi and Dare Kolawole. His five great grandchildren brought him great joy, Brooke, Cooper, Prince, Peace and Robert Jackson. He also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews. Joe attended Syracuse University for two years during the depression era. He left college because he was needed back home in West Springfield to help contribute to his family’s income. He was fortunate to have found a job and was hired by the Strathmore Paper Company. He worked there as a loft foreman for over forty years. Joe and Ruth were longtime residents of West Springfield, where they were both proud members of the Mittineague Congregational Church. In fact, he was recognized for being the longest living member of the church. he was an avid sports fan and was especially fond of Syracuse men’s basketball, New York Giants football and both New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants baseball teams. He loved all nature but his true joy was tending to his garden. After his retirement, he dabbled with writing poetry and painting. Joe attributed his longevity to his love and devotion for his wife, Ruth, his passion for gardening and his religious faith. His family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. We appreciate all the attention and compassionate care given by Ngozi and Kim, the fun activities provided by Diane, and to his “beautiful” Audrey who never failed to bring a ray of sunshine to his room. We also wish to extend our sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at Spectrum Hospice Care for gently helping guide him through his journey back home. Thank you so much, Dihann, Stella, Ellen, Rebecca, Stephanie and Devorah. A celebration of Joseph’s life will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00am at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 – 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mittineague Congregational Church, 1840 Westfield Street, West Springfield, MA 01089 or to the Spectrum Home Health and Hospice Care, 770 Converse Street, Longmeadow, MA 01106

Not sure what to say?

I was thinking of Joe just the other day and remembering the interview we did together. Time sure does fly. I sometimes wish we could go back to an earlier time when things were simpler and people respected each other for who they were. Hope you are all well.

Jean, so sorry to hear about your Dad. I remember both your Mother and Father at family gatherings many years ago. They were both good people and made a great couple. Our condolences to you and your family.

Joe has been gentleman all the many years I've known him and Ruth was one of the nicest people I had the privilege of knowing. Joe will be missed by many. God Bless you Joe!

I'll always remember sweet Mr and Mrs Annino sitting together in church. Such a testimony to love and marriage.

So sorry to hear about Joseph. Joseph in the Bible was a hard worker also. What a good long life Joseph enjoyed. Many, many cannot say the same. He was one of those especially strong. Ps. 90:10

He was a wonderful father in law, grandfather and loving father. love you Dad, Genie and Jeff

I will miss you, Uncle Joe. Many wonderful memories of Holiday dinners at your house with Aunt Ruth. Many Sunday evenings playing Pitch at Grampa and Grammas house. And many more memories to long to list. You are missed!
