Joseph Ignatius "Ig" Ballard Sr., 91, Loretto, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at Baptist Health Louisville.
He was born on Sept. 1, 1924 in Holy Cross. He was a former president of the old Bank of Loretto, a former operator of Ballard Insurance and Real Estate, a lifelong farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Cleophas Fabian and Anna Marie Hagan Ballard; two sisters, Flavia Moschetti and Theresa Spalding; and seven brothers, Aloysius, Paschal, Emmanuel, Paul, Caleb, Benny and Frank Ballard.
Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Cecilia Luckett Ballard; two daughters, Fran Nusbaum (Mike) of Louisville and Julie Ballard of Elizabethtown; two sons, Joe Ballard (Lucy) of Loretto and Doug Ballard of Louisville; four grandchildren, Daniel, Michael and Ellen Nusbaum, and Kimberly Brussell; two great-grandchildren, Blake and Braylee Brussell; one sister, Agnes Simms (Bobby) of Georgetown, Indiana; five sisters-in-law, Jane Ballard of Holy Cross, Susan and Dorothy Ballard, both of Bardstown, Mary Ballard of Lexington, and Elaine Ballard of San Antonio, Texas.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 3, at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6785 Highway 52, Loretto, with interment in Saint Augustine Cemetery in Lebanon. Rev. Bill Bowling will officiate.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Mattingly Funeral Home, 195 Holy Cross Road, Loretto with a prayer service at 7 p.m. by Deacon Joseph R. Dant.
Memorials may go to Mass of the Air, 508 Breckenridge Lane, Louisville, KY 40207 or Saint Vincent de Paul Society, 113 North 4th Street, Bardstown, KY 40004.
Pallbearers are Daniel Nusbaum, Michael Nusbaum, Ellen Nusbaum, Kimberly Brussell, Robbie Brussell and Bobby Simms.
Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
