Camp Takajo on Long Lake
We affectionately called him "Joe Batt" at Camp Takajo, a summer boys camp in Naples, Maine where Joe was the Junior Group Head for a remarkable thirty years.
He was a gentleman "from head to toe", always considerate of others and blessed with a patient, understanding nature that brought out the best in the campers in his charge.
I can still hear his whistle, followed by "Green League Swim".

To the family,
May the beautiful memories of your loved one provide solace and strength to you and your family during this difficult time; and may you also find much comfort and peace from God's promise of life without end in Paradise.~ Matthew 5:5; Psalms 37:11,29

I was so sad to hear of Joe's passing. I'll miss playing with him at the Wednesday Cherry Hill bridge game; he was a formidable and enjoyable opponent in the south position at table 6. It will be sad not seeing him there anymore.
With sincere sympathy,

I am sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I was his student teacher and later a member of the math department of Haddon Township with him. I am fortunate to have learned from him and to have been his friend. He was a wonderful person, a dedicated teacher and a true gentleman.

I had Mr. Battagline around 1955. I would not even now call him "Joe." Some teachers deserve to be called Mister. He was a no nonsense teacher who was able to control the out-of-control junior high school kids. He made algebra make sense. Thanks Mr. B. Job well done.

"uncle Joe" taught me 8TH. grade Math at Haddon Junior high school in 1957. There was not yet a high school that wasn't built for several years.
He was a no nonsense teacher, but a fair one. Who knew if you were struggling, and needed a "Push". Which he readily gave.
The rumor was that he had been a prize fighter, ostensibly because of his "Bent" nose. Whether it was true or not,it got him the respect that he deserved, and could hold a class together in spite of whatever was going on...

Some great memories of Mr Battaglini as I struggled through his math class. He always pushed you harded - good life lesson.
