So soon it has been a year since Joe's death. Hard to believe is a cliche but true. It would be so wonderful to have him with us still at family parties and restaurant get-togethers. To see his big smile and laughter & a toast to all. Wish too he was still with Ginger as they were before 2014 traveling the world and so in love with each other. May he rest in peace.

My condolences to Ginger and the entire Berrigan family and friends. Joe was a man's man and a mentor to me. A fierce competitor. So sorry to learn of his passing.

Joe was the best brother-in-law one could have and the best husband for Ginger! She is struggling with is loss. I feel a big, empty place in my heart when I think of all the wonderful times we had together with my husband John. Dinners out, holiday dinners with all the Berrigan families and many great times in New York with Ginger and my parents.
I am remembering him making me a delicious martini in one of the two antique cobalt blue glasses. Joey, did I describe them correctly?
I send my deep condolences to Joe's children and grandchildren and great grandchildren who I saw at the funeral. That felt good.

Joe was my favorite brother-in-law. He was a big man with a big heart & an all encompassing joie de vivre. He loved life & he lived it to the utmost. And he loved Ginger.
And of course there was golf. Iwill never forget when he & my brother David took my daughter's bridegroom out to the course on the day before the wedding for a game & tutelage on marriage & the art of being a good husband. Judging by the hilarity that accompanied their return, I think there must have been a bit of the grape along with them too!. How I would have loved to have been a mouse in one of their pockets!
Bless you Joe! You are one of a kind.

My condolences to Joe's family and friends. I met Joe after he and my sister Ginger got married so many years ago. It was a joy to see them together as they so obviously cared so much for each other. It goes beyond words to describe what a wonderful person Joe was. What stands out to me was how much he cared about other people and what a pleasure it was to be with him. He had such a wonderful sense of humor! I remember well the last time I saw Joe - at a restaurant in NY where Joe, Ginger & family met for breakfast. We had a great time as usual talking about family & laughing. I can still see Joe raising his glass with his laugh and big smile large as life. Rest in peace.

Dear Ginger:
I am deeply saddened to hear of Joe's death. He was smart, kind, generous, and hilarious. And everyone knew he was madly in love with you from your first date on!
I will treasure the times we spent together, dinners and pool parties at your home.
I am so sorry I cannot attend the service, as I am out of the country.
Rest in peace, Hamburger Joe...
Love,
Judith

Joe was a great guy--delightful to me. But I most remember him as someone who was way ahead of his time and embraced many marginalized people and groups. A white guy who deserves to be remembered as an icon of the Civil Rights movement. Rest In Peace Joe, you deserve it and we will not forget.

Dear Ginger,
Our sympathy to you and your family. I want you to know that I have to smile when I think of Joe...every time we saw the two of you, he would bestow on us a bear hug and a big kiss, oblivious to (or more probably, enjoying) the occasional discomfort of those near by. His life was a gift to all who knew him, and we will treasure his memory. Rich Sacher and Kevin Joyce

joe,
A great brother-inlaw and a great friend. What good times we had. Downtown at the jazz clubs. Dinner at the country club. Golf in New Orleans, in New Hampshire, in Connecticut. Our last 18 at the Audubon public course in NO. We didn't score great but it was fun. Loved our afternoon time in the pool, martinis and scotch in hand. We watched a lot of golf and tennis in the Hamilton Ave living room.
Joe, you will be terribly missed. By me, by everyone !!
