The Gerac Family

Joe Bourgeios shaped my life. I met Joe in 1977 when I started my career with Exxon. Joe became my mentor; schooling me on the finer details of corporate life. He took the tennis racket out of my hand and replaced it with a golf club, telling me executives all play golf, and if I wanted to be an executive, I need to play golf.

When my father died in 1980 Joe “adopted” my family and started calling me “son”. My children became extended family calling Joe “Paw Paw”.

I am saddened with the news of Joe's passing. He was my great friend and mentor from my first days with ExxonMobil in 1977. Joe's smile helped brighten many a difficult day for me. Joe was such a great example of the servant leader, who helped far more people than he will ever know. And his golf swing set a standard for me that I will never meet. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. He will be greatly missed.

Joe was such a wonderful member of the ExxonMobil family. He was so caring and seemed so pleased to be working with all of us. I so remember many of my bosses participating in his golf tournaments. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family at this sad time. Barbara and Bill Johnson
