Joseph passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Joseph was a resident of Lancaster, Pennsylvania at the time of passing. He was a graduate of JP McCaskey High School where he was on the gymnastics team, was the marble champion of Lancaster at the age of 13, enjoyed playing bocce, golfing and bowling, and was the organizer of the annual "Lancaster Day" trips to the Philadelphia Phillies which continues to this day. Joe was proud to be a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1944 on the USS New Jersey, the destroyer USS Hailey in campaigns from the Marshall Islands to the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and the USS Puget Sound, bringing troops back from island invasions. A second viewing will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 10-11 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602, with the Mass to follow at 11AM. Interment in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in his memory to St. Anthony's Church at the above address or to the American Cancer Society, 314 Crown Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603.
