Joseph Cardini Obituary

Joseph V. Cardini, 85, of South Windsor, and widower of Celia (Smigiel) since 2002, entered into God's care on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the South Windsor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Joseph was born in Brockton, Mass., son of the late Quinto and Ethel (Coughlin) Cardini, and previously resided in East Hartford. Joseph proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church and member of its Men's Club, the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10251. He had been employed by Stanadyne of Windsor as a tool maker until his retirement. He most enjoyed spending his time with family and friends, loved music, and wrote poetry.

A devoted and loving father and grandfather, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Doreen Blondin and her husband, John, of South Windsor, and Deborah Cardini Motola of East Hartford; and two sons, Alan Cardini of East Hartford and Gary Cardini and his wife, Bobbi, of Florida; his dear seven grandchildren, Adam, Kyle, A.J., Catherine, Jennifer, Kenneth, and Nicole; and two precious great-grandchildren, Nina and Ka-lel. He is also survived by a brother, Leon Cardini and his wife, Lucy, of Arizona; and many dear nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by two sisters, Eunice and Cecelia; and three brothers, James, Francis, and his twin, John.

Funeral services will begin Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at 8:45 a.m. from the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church, South Windsor. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery, South Glastonbury.

Calling hours will be Monday, Dec. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph's name may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, Social Action Committee, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor, CT 06074, or the Cardini family asks you perform a random act of kindness to someone in need. Flowers fade, kindness lasts forever.

Gary & family, so sorry for your loss. Your mom and dad were always great fun. I will always remember during our High School days, going on our Pizza runs to South Glastonbury then back to your house. It was always full of people and everyone was welcome Great picture, he was always smiling, and that is how I will remembered him.
