When I was an eighth grader in a Newark junior high, I and a few others were selected by Joe from a touch football league to practice tackle with the freshman team at the high school. Doctor and parents said no, and I was crestfallen. Joe got wind of it and offered me the opportunity to be an equipment manager with frosh and varsity, where I served for five full years, probably the only kid to do that at Newark High over the years. Mr. Carlo was my US History teacher in 11th grade (1973). There are many of us from Normandy High School in Parma with fond memories of Papa Joe. Thanks for being fair and a gentlemen.

Mr. Carlo was our athletic director at Valley Forge and taught with my Dad Loren Castor. He had gone to Normandy High School when I began teaching and coaching at Valley Forge.
Mom sent me his obituary and what most impressed me most was he probably saw more war action than any teacher during WW II yet he never discussed the war. Could it
be that was why guys like Joe and my Dad always had smiles in school because they remembered how may guys never got to come back and gave their lives...

We have fond memories of both Joe and of Mona. We enjoyed taking Joe to the Strongsville football game last fall.
