ANSONIA: Joseph Cassisi, age 79, of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest on Friday evening August 3, 2018, at CT Hospice in Branford.
Mr. Cassisi was born in Caltanissetta, Sicily, Italy on Feb. 5, 1939, son of the late Francesco and Carmela Gruttadauria Cassisi. He had worked as a self-employed mason contractor and formerly owned Cassisi Construction. Joe was a long-time member of the Sons of Italy in Derby and enjoyed raising honey bees, singer canaries and making wine.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Francis M. Cassisi (Patricia) of Harwich, MA, a daughter, Gina M. Rice (Kanyanta Mambwe) of Naples, FL, grandson, Nicholas Ivan Cassisi of Harwich, MA, a sister, Angelina Polizzi of Sicily, Italy and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Cologero and Salvatore Cassisi and sisters, Michelina Desiderato and Francesca Winkler.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday August 8, 2018, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the chapel of the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia. On Thursday, his funeral will begin at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mt.
