Not sure what to say?

Joe was one of a kind in the UW family. Most capable as an administrator, yet so very approachable. I was privileged to call him a friend. My condolences to his family and to our UW colleagues.

Joe was an excellent human being and such a supporter and volunteer to St. Vincent de Paul. We are blessed to have him in the St. Vincent de Paul Family! May the perpetual light shine upon him. -Eric Fleming and the entire staff and volunteer group at SVdP - Madison.

Joe was a wonderful classmate and a man who truly fulfilled his vocation in life. He will rest in peace. Dan Gorman '54

Jen, my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your dad.

One of the really good guys. Joe took his stewardship of the Wisconsin Idea to heart and made sure the state's university served its citizens. It was an honor to work with him and call him a colleague and friend. After retirement, Joe and my father-in-law Ted Shannon became close and Joe was always asking me how Ted was doing and what he could do to help as Ted's health deteriorated. It was always about someone else, never about Joe. RIP to one of the best.

Joe volunteered in my kindergarten classroom for many years. He was a wonderful person and was so loved by my students. - Staci Zembrycki Hannes (Midvale Elementary)

Joe truly was dedicated to substance in all his work. Truly one of the good guys. I enjoyed working with him on many projects. Walter Dickey

Joe's smile never faded - the same in my 3rd grade & 8th graduation photos. We enjoyed wonderful years - recess marbles, school picnics, touch football & his mom's brownies. He'll always bring smiles. My condolences to you all.

Our sincere condolences. We are part of the UW family and are grateful Joe touched our lives. A most respected colleague and human being.
