Mr & Mrs. Derrick, I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Joey. He was always such an inspiration to everyone & was a friend to all those around him at WHS. Those were truly some special days to be treasured. My thoughts & prayers are with you & your family.

I think I was in the 5th, maybe 6th grade ... I was trying to properly throw a football and Joey befriended me by showing me the techniques. I don't remember exactly what he showed me or how long he spent with me. But I definitely remember that he treated me like I was important and not just a scrawny, bothersome kid. I've looked up to him ever since. This was over 40 years ago and I've NEVER forgotten his kindness, patience, and affirming smile towards me in that one incident. I'm sure that...

I am very sorry to learn of Joey's passing. We were on the Woodruff Golf Team together and I remember as being one of the nicest people you would ever want to know.

It was a shock to hear of Joey's passing, he was such a carring person as shown in the life he lived. I'm sure he is enjoying all the blessings on heaven today. May God bless you and strengthen you in the days ahead.

DERRECK, I am SO sorry to hear about Joey.He was the kindness person anyone would want to be around.Even though he was the principal's son didn't really matter to how he was; but he did have your mannerisms.Joey was a guy that I think everyone at school respected. When thinking of a leader, Joey always came to my mind. During our years together at WHS, Joey excelled in all aspects of his life. I remember those days with much fondness.
