Throughout my entire Heart Association career in Illinois and in California, Joe was the one person in the National Center who always knew you by name, had time to share with you, and some nutty new gadget that he was trying to pawn off as the latest and greatest incentive you could give to a volunteer or to a donor. I worked with Joe Dowling in the purchasing dept at AHA for 5 yrs and when I left....I took his business mentoring with me. He was and still is one of the '10 most influential' people in my life. I loved Joe like a dad and he could tell the best jokes. He was a wonderful person, a proud veteran, hard worker, dedicated, loyal, a fun guy, a real family man and he will be greatly missed.
My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to Edie, his children, grand children, great grandchildren and...

Dear Ms Edie and Family,
There is so little I could say about Joe that you don't already know or haven't already heard. I've missed him very much this past year and will continue to miss him but will never forget him. He loved his family and friends immensely and enjoyed sharing stories of you. Joe-Joe, Jose`, Joseph Gorgeous Dowling, President of the Hug Club, Care Bear, and other references that would be inappropriate to list, all loving nicknames for Joe. His huge bright light has...
