My mom was one of the first recipients of an artificial heart valve, which was performed at Albany Med by Dr. Doyle way back in the early 70's. My mom is still alive with that click-clacking, ball-bearing valve. She gets many a wide-eyed stare from doctors and nurses nowadays when she tells them about it. They all comment on how she "got her mileage out of it." She and I attribute it to the excellence and care of Dr. Doyle. I did not interface with Dr. Doyle much (I am my mom's son), but when...
