Not sure what to say?

What a great, dedicated, good, and kind man he was! When I think of Joe, I am reminded of an exchange in Thornton Wilder's "Our Town": "Emily: Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it? - every, every minute? Stage Manager: No. The saints and poets, maybe they do some." Was Joe a saint or a poet? Do I have to choose only one?

We will miss your intellect but even more your smile and positive attitude. JoecaThomr

Joe Elder has been one of the most influential people in my life. He was my major professor, largely responsible for my degree in South Asian Studies, my year in India, my documentary feature film shot in India, my pursuit of conscientious objector status, my anti-war beliefs and my pacifism. The world is a better place because of him.

Joe and his lovely wife, Jo, were great influences in my life. They took me to my first civil rights protest . They are partly responsible for my lifelong career in civil rights law. They were wonderful humanitarians who made this world a better place.

I´m so sorry for your loss. Your father was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Offering our deepest condolences during this difficult time.
