Union Funeral Home - Lytwyn & Grillo Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of Joseph E. Farrell, age 68. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital after a heroic fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, Helene, and close relatives. Joe was born on June 26, 1949 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Kathleen and Joseph Farrell. He is survived by his sisters Kathy and Georgianna and brother, William. A graduate of Jersey City State College, Joe received a B.A. in Economics. After college, he spent time in the Army reserve. After his marriage, Joe moved to Union, New Jersey and was a successful Retail Manager for D&R Management. Over the years, Joe and Helene travelled extensively to the Caribbean and many places in Europe. Years later, Joe welcomed his aging mother-in-law to reside in their home. He kept her safe until she moved into a nursing home. Joe was a quiet spirit but always knew when he was needed. Joe helped neighbors with landscaping issues or general building concerns. We will miss his compassion, his quick smile and sense of humor. He will be missed by his extensive family. A memorial service will be held at Union Funeral Home on December 9 from 11:00a.m.- 3:00p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society can be made to honor his interest in this cause.

Not sure what to say?

So sorry to hear this news about Joey, Helene. It was always an inspiration to see you two together. I hope your memories are as sweet and warm as I imagine them to be; may they in time be a comfort to you.

Helene,

I'm so sorry to learn of Joe's passing. I think back to those early days at Shadow when we were all just starting out. Shadow really was like a family then with spouses, boyfriends and girlfriends all coming together after work to get a drink at Tiff's or Beggar's Banquet. I'm happy for those times because it allowed me to get to meet Joe. I pray that the love of family and friends will help you through this time.

Helene. We are so sorry. With heartfelt sympathy. Love Cousin Joanie

Rest In Peace Joe

Deepest sympathy, Helene. Joey was a sweet, fun guy, and a good dancer! You two were a model couple, and I always loved seeing you two together. May Joey rest in peace, and may you find peace as you grieve his passing.

Helene, I am so sorry to hear about Joe. May he rest peacefully in the Lord's arms. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
