Not sure what to say?

How we miss you Joe. You are a Man of great wisdom and full of curiosity and talent. I´ll never ever forget your rendition of A Child´s Christmas in Wales, one of my favorite poems by Dylan Thomas You are so dramatic, so expressive and with an amazing memory. How do you memorize so many beautiful poems?!! And the poems about the sea too! Bravo monsieur Joe! You are a True Renaissance Man!

I miss you Mr. Joe, thank you for everything you taught me in the wooden boat workshop.

I lived next to Joe on Maryland Ave for a little more than three years. He was kind, outgoing and friendly. He loved working on boats and shared memories as well as showing me the boat he was working on! In 1985, he gave me a piece of the teak deck he had replaced on the USS Iowa and told some great stories of working on the ship while going through the Panama Canal. While I haven't lived on Maryland Ave for a long, long time, I do remember the times we talked. He was a great guy.

I wrote tonight a long piece about dear Joe and it disappeared. I am so sorry...I have been thinking of Joe all day today. I shall never forget him. He is indeed a Renaissance man. I admire him so much..I hope this notes reaches you, Patricia.

Joe is indeed a remarkable Renaissance man, so talented, so energetic, so creative, so resourceful, so gentle and loving too. What a special friend he was to me! I would often listen to his words of wisdom at Al's salons when we discussed political topics, or at the annual Fair Trade Festival where Joe recited with gusto "A Child's Christmas in Wales" a favorite poem of mine by Dylan Thomas. He also came to our Lydia Roper Home (an assisted living place in Colonial Place, now closed) to...

Thank you Mr. Joe for teaching me so much about boat building, for teaching me even more about life and making the best of it. I still need to read that book you gave me about sailing. Thank you for everything.

So sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. He and my dad were great friends and could talk boat building for hours. Joe was a big part of my dad’s 90th birthday with a rendition of a seafaring poem. Joe, an incredible craftsman and family friend, you will be missed.
