Not sure what to say?

The Russell Family We are filled with sadness but at the same time joy at the fact Joe went to heaven. Otis is struggling to realize how that’s possible. He is at HRC in Roslindale still getting the paper daily looking for Joes pearls of wisdom and insightful stories. Dad is recalling the beautiful Katie and Joe jr. and how they enjoyed watching u grow up God bless u .

I sent Joe a letter many years ago about my wife who was battling breast cancer. I was not looking for a article but just a relief to write. Joe called me 2 days later and we talked. He wanted to put my story in his article for the paper. Needless to say I was blown away. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. He definitely made a change for me and my wife at this most difficult time. God Bless You Paul Christo

Michael, Kate, and Tim, I just learned of your Dad.s passing this morning.I am very sorry for this loss. Your folks were very good and kind to me ,as they were to many.I have very many happy to have known the five of you during the Norwood high school years.Again, so very sorry, George FaheyGeorge

I am so sorry to learn of Joe's passing and I would have attended the celebration of his life. My dad and I appreciated Joe's friendship and I was happy to partner with him for many years in hosting Meeting House Concerts at Brewster Baptist Church. I pray the memories of your loved one will live long in your hearts and memories. As you noted, Joe would always say he was blessed beyond measure.

A valued colleague and good friend. Jackie and I share his family´s grief. Rest In Peace. Dana Bisbee

Joe was a favorite of mine for years at the Herald. He had a way of speaking between the lines that I understood. He contributed a number of articles on people with alcoholism that I was attached to. I joined the Fellowship in 1997, and Joe's writings were important to me. Thank you for enriching my life Joe!

We were very sorry to read of Joe's passing. We recall many an eloquent presentation as a guest speaker for organizations and opinions given by him during his tenure as a town meeting member in Norwood. Our deepest sympathy to the family. He will surely be missed.

Joe had the unique talent to make you laugh and make you cry in the same paragraph on every subject he constructed from chasing police cruisers in the backwoods of Vermont so long ago, to nurturing a soul of his native Roxbury in words and deeds during the last 40 years. From Potentates to politicians "Fitz" painted a crystal clear picture on paper for one and all to enjoy. He was more than my cousin....he was my much-loved "Bro" and he has taken that final trip way too early. ...
