I met Joe when I started working part time at The Times as a linotype operator. His machine was next to Pete Frascella's and then mine. The three of us shared many laughs and sad times together. I vividly remember when Joe's daughter drowned and we (Pete and myself) went to the viewing. I don't think Joe ever fully recovered from that because he was such a great family man. Joe was a gentle, soft-spoken individual who was serious about everything...
