Not sure what to say?

My teaching includes tapping my right shoulder as I tell my UCLA med students and residents, "I still have my chief, Joe Foley rignt here: Do the right thing." That's the message I got from him and that I give to you." That's all that I need to say about my esteemed mentor. I'd like to reconnect with my former colleague-residents at Lakeside.

Dr. Foley was a great teacher at HMS, at Boston City Hospital, I believe, and presented patients with great compassion who had agreed to participate in our learning the ways in which their neurologic poblems presented and affected them. John Dickinson McGavic,MD HMS '61

Dear Foleys,
It's been a sad year for both of our families. Around our house in Cleveland it was common knowledge that Joe Foley hung the moon!

Dr. Foley was one of my favorite medical school mentors, a man of great wit, compassion and intellect and a captivating raconteur. My condolences to his family.

It was a pleasure meeting Dr. Foley last year, he was sitting on the porch in his chair enjoying the weather, I said would you like to have your mail? He said: No put it in the basket I'm enjoying the weather, I laughed he did as well and we had a 20 min. Conversation I spent my lunch break talking with him, you will be missed,..... Joe Foley - unique, brilliant, mirthful, generous, spiritual, grateful, joyful, friend, mentor of mentors, and much loved by individuals everywhere. He will be greatly missed by so many, and now he embarks on another great theological adventure.

My deepest sympathy to Steve and all your family. I worked at Holy Cross and enjoyed my trips to Cleveland and visits with Dr. Foley. What a remarkable man. I will remember him in my prayers.

Joe will be dearly missed by those who have known and loved him, and benefitted from his wisdom over the decades! His humor, his love of life and for having fun are legion. I learned from his wisdom and hope I pass it along to upcoming generations who won't have the pleasure of knowing him personally.
