Angelus Funeral Home - San Antonio Obituary

Joseph Paul Freeman, known to all as Joe, returned to his heavenly home on April 24, 2020.  Joe was born on April 27, 1958 to Howard & Eleanor Freeman in El Paso, Texas.  He attended St Gregory the Great Elementary School, Antonian High School, and Churchill High School before Trinity University.  There he met Linda Ann Gomez, the love of his life and future wife.  Along the way Joe made lifelong friends who remember his wit and humor.

Joe wanted to work in Television/Radio as a meteorologist, but when introduced to computers he programmed a video game for Trinity's student lounge and quickly changed his major to Computer Science. After college Joe accepted a job with NASA on the new Space Shuttle program, starting an impressive career. Joe’s love of communication, radio, and the skies continued as he engineered telecommunications while practicing HAM radio, storm chasing, and astronomy. Joe lived a life of service to his family and community - he was a founding board member of the Austin Diocese Medical Mission team and remained active in the mission and his faith throughout his life.

Joe is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda; his parents Howard & Eleanor Freeman; his brother Tom Freeman & sister-in-law Shannon. The legacy of Joe’s soft heart and sharp wit lives on in his children Sandra Christine, Jennifer Lynn and husband Fernando II, Catherine Noelle and her husband Jacob. Also by his sisters-in-laws Anna Gomez; Diana Harmon and husband Doug; brother-in-law Gilbert Gomez and wife Lizette. He will be missed by uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe had the genuine heart of a family man -- a heart full of love and self-sacrifice.

A Memorial Mass and Reception will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Joe would thank you for donations to the

St. Francis Medical Mission team at 110 Raley Rd., Cedar Park, TX 78613.

Not sure what to say?

Linda - I hate that it has been two years since Joe's death and I'm just finding out. Russlene heard someone at today's retreat asking you about Joe and she asked me if he had died. I said I didn't know. I went to the internet to search and found this terrible news. You know, Joe was a CHRP brother of mine. He worked on several weekends with me and was just a very good man. It was obvious that he loved you and his family tremendously. I have not seen Joe in several years, but this...

I love you Dad. I can't believe it's been a year. Every time I pick up an instrument or recognize the beauty of the sky I think of you. When mom and the sisters crack jokes, I hear you laugh with us. Even if it's in a cemetery like today (the plot thickens, haha). I think of when you said that we sisters began from you falling in love with the twinkles in mom's eye. I miss that big grin you wore when we'd all get together and unleash all the puns, shenanigans, the banter of fun facts and...

Joe has always been a big Astros Fan. September 2017

Joe was very kind man and friend. He was someone you would strive to be. Personally he taught me a lot about life and I appreciate that I was able to get to know him. It is important to celebrate Joe.
