Joseph Taylor Goodman, 22, of Birmingham, Ala., who loved life, his family and friends and the natural world and was a shining light for so many people he touched, died on January 14, 2019, in Birmingham, Ala. Taylor was born in Birmingham on January 17, 1996. Taylor also lived in Glenwood Springs, Colo., where he was a whitewater rafting guide on the Colorado River and studied photography at Colorado Mountain College. A student of the UAB Collat School of Business, Taylor graduated from Spain Park High School with honors. While attending UAB, Taylor helped his friends start the school's chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity. A talented and brilliant photographer from a very young age, Taylor learned the craft from his mother. He found great joy in nature, and enjoyed backpacking, skiing, rafting and any outdoor pursuit that involved spending time with those he loved. Taylor worked throughout Birmingham while in school, and was always focused on his next great endeavor. An example of his fearless drive to succeed: While living in Colorado, Taylor guided on the Roaring Fork section of the Colorado River with a broken collarbone. Taylor sacrificed for those he loved, and was dedicated to making the world a better place. He is survived by his mother Bonnie Goodman Cerniglia (Chris), his father Martin Joseph Goodman Jr. (Sarah), his two brothers Christopher Parker Goodman and James Jordan Goodman, his maternal grandparents George Parker (Terri), Jim Morris (Nicole), Pat Lynch (Tynette), and Pat Cerniglia, his paternal grandparents Martin Joseph Goodman (Sue), Iris Goodman, great maternal grandparents Aleck Choraitis (Penny) and Bonnie Faye Parker. Preceded in death by his grandmother Anastasia Morris. A Celebration of Life for our "Tay Tay" will be held on Friday, Jan 18th at ShellB Acres, 7700 Highway 13, Helena, AL 35080. Tay Attire (Thrifty Casual). Family 1:00-2:00 p.m. and his so many amazing friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the Goodman family requests donations to Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve. https://app.moonclerk.com/pay/41org7odla4

Not sure what to say?

Bonnie,
I'm very sorry for your loss. I know first hand as a mom that there are no words to ease the pain of the loss of a child. Keep your family close and always keep him in your thoughts.

Joe, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

Joe, your son sounds like an incredible human being. I wish I would have met him. I think he will have some amazing scenery to photograph in his new home.

Although my wife Merry and I did not know Tay Tay we know his maternal grandparents Marty and Sue.
