Not sure what to say?

Joe touched our lives in many aspects cherished: family, student years, profession and friendship. We have so many fond memories of moments spent with Joe and Sharon. May your family hold dear your fondest memories of times when Joe brought as much joy to you as he did to all he encountered. Joe is the most gracious, funny and brilliant person to have been in our lives. Your family remains in our hearts and prayers. We are sorry for your loss.
With our deepest condolences.

I got to know Dr. Hartmann when I was the Good Samaritan EMS secretary working in paramedic education from 1989-2008. I would be in his presence at System meetings and also take many of our eligible paramedic students up to his office where he would talk with them and they would then receive their final paramedic 3-digit paramedic official number. Dr. Hartmann was a wonderful, friendly, amusing and intelligent man. I was so shocked to just hear of his passing today. Heaven is a greater...

Dr. Joe will be greatly missed. Thank you for saving my Dad. Thank you for being the kind of person that would stop and talk. Thank you for all the patients you took care of with such grace and expertise. Thank you for being my friend.

Dr. Joe served as our North Central College team physician back in the 70's when I was coaching football. He was a friend and we enjoyed having him as part of the future success in NCC athletics. We pray for Sharon and family for peace and understanding. Hank and Joan Guenther.

I remember Joe mostly as a kid when our parents were friends, and we went to visit in Effingham. Later, I knew him as an adult when we would gather together to discuss various topics at his cousin's house. It sounds like he became an outstanding doctor who really had compassion for his patients. Having been working in the medical field since 1990, I can say that those kind of doctors are rare. We could sure use more like Joe. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.
