My deepest sympathy in your loss of Father Joe. When he was at St. Joes in Marion he helped me thru a very difficult time. I was always so impressed how he remembered people's names.
When he was in Rome we kept in touch. He always lifted my spirits. I had introduced him to my Godmother and he always asked about her and called her by name. Thought about him often. Very special person in my life. Blessings, Arlene

The demise of Fr. Hauer is a great loss to the Archdiocese and especially to the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. Father Joe was always there for our families. Jacque and I were his first marriage (1980) that he officiated after he was ordained. He was a fabulous tour guide in Rome and the Vatican for our family. He even went so far as to arrange an invitation to the Pope's Mass. We were honored to have the opportunity to be with him for several days in Rome.

He officiated my Mom and Dad's funerals. He did a humorous tribute to my Dad that was truly unforgettable.
