Aug 23, 1963 – Oct 31, 2022 (Age 59)
Master Sergeant (Ret.) Joseph Herbert of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at the age of 59. Joe was born to Veronica Herbert on August 23, 1963. Joe was a graduate of Evanston Township High School, received a Bachelor's from Cameron University, a Master's from Webster University, and was a member of the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business. After graduating high school, Joe enlisted in the United States Army. He received multiple decorations, including the Bronze Star Medal, while serving tours in Germany, South Korea, Kuwait, and deployment to the Middle East for the Iraq War. While Joe loved his time in the service, it was merely one aspect of who he was. He was a proud father, with the most important day of his life being March 19, 1996, the day his son, Cory, was born. Joe was a lover of travel, culture, and technology; a keen observer of the world, an unwavering voice, and a steady hand; a guide, a mentor, and a role model. He touched the hearts and shaped the lives of countless individuals, always encouraging everyone who crossed his path to do what he did best: live life to the fullest. Joe never ceased to be a devoted father, a supportive brother, and a loving son. As intelligent as he was kind, as dependable as he was resolute, Joe was a force of nature. He was a constant source of strength and comfort, never hesitating to fill the breach as a father figure or brother when it was asked of him. He is survived by his son, Cory; his mother, Veronica; his sister, Sandra; his nephew, Tony; his uncle, Beresford; his aunts, Doris and Olive; and many beloved cousins. He is preceded in death by his uncle Michael and aunt Dorothy who helped watch over him in his youth, and his grandmother, Martha Barzey, whom he loved very much. A memorial service will be held at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home on November 18, 2022, at 11 am. Following the service, Joseph will be laid to rest among his enlisted brothers and sisters at Fort Sill National Cemetery. All are welcome. Should you wish to attend, please consider wearing at least one blue item as it was his favorite color. Prayers, condolences, and memories are gladly accepted here on this website.

It was truly an honor and a pleasure working with Joe for many years at the Welcome Center. The Administrative Services Division treated Joe as a member of our team. We would invite him to all of our functions (birthdays, holiday celebrations etc). He was a kind soul and always kept us laughing during all of his visits. Sending our condolences to his entire Family. Joe will be missed dearly!!! Love ❤ Darrell & June Williams.
