I knew Joe Herd since I was a kid through my attendance at Chapman's Quarries UMC. Joe and Rusty came to my wedding in 1980. They gave my parents a place to stay when their house was burnt down. I often sat in the back row at Sunday School with Joe and Bob Boehl and enjoyed their witty conversation. Joe had a beautiful soul and a beautiful voice. My most heartfelt sympathy to Joe's entire family. He was such a wonderful, kind, engaging man. A few years ago, when my mom was trying to orchestrate a pastie drop-off to Moravian Hall Square friends, I ended up on the phone with Joe. I had recently been given full-time custody of my young grandson, and during that phone call, Joe told me that he prays for me in this undertaking. It was such a powerful thing for me to hear!
