Not sure what to say?

To Mrs Herne and Family,
I was a member of the band from 1975 until 1977 and loved every minute of it. Joe was a wonderful teacher and mentor. Many of my fondest memories of high school have to do with the band and Joe's great leadership. He touched so many lives, including mine, in the most positive way. Please know that he lives on in my heart and memory.

Mrs. Herne, and Family
Joe was a good friend, and a good teacher whom I will never forget. We all had some good times to remember as band members under Joe Herne's direction

Dear Mrs. Herne & Family: Your Joe wasn't just any Joe. He was special in a way that made everyone else feel special. He elicited ability that we didn't know we had. He taught us how to enjoy good music, well-played. I haven't picked up a trumpet in 35 years, but I couldn't put it down around your Joe. May he rest in peace. We're all so lucky to have known him. . . where melody connects with harmony. wally pickford

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Herne's passing. I played in the band from 69-71 and loved every memory of it. Joe was one to always take the time to listen to your problems and give you advice. I will always remember his gentle but firm ways. I will miss him dearly.

I am sorry to learn of Joe Herne's passing. I was a member of the CHSE Band from 1966-1967 and had participated in summer music lessons with him from 1961-1964 prior to my becoming a high school student. He made the band something to be very proud of, and I have always happily remembered my time in the CHSE Band under Joe Herne's direction.

My thoughts are with the family.

I was a student of Mr. Herne's from 71-74 and thanks to him, I played in the URI Ram Band with many other East alumni. He was always encouraging, supportive and most of all, even tempered, even when we gave him reason to not be. Many of my best memories of Cranston East are band related and my appreciation of music today has to be due in large part to his teaching. I also saw Mr. Herne at his "other job" at Almacs and had a great time talking with him.
He will be missed.
Art...

Mr. Herne was an exceptional educator. I was a member of the a capella choir, and Mr. Herne and I would have wonderful conversations in the band room after rehearsals. He will truly be missed.

As I get older, I appreciate my experiences being in the Cranston East band. The trip to England in 1972 was a blast, going to band camp and marching in the football game was great. I still listen to the music we played in the band. Mr. Herne demonstrated a great deal of patience with his students. My thoughts are with his family.

Joe Herne was a wonderful man and a friend to all his students....he will be in our prayers and our thoughts are with his family
