Not sure what to say?

I just looked Mr. Hruby up this morning to see that he passed away 10 years ago. I had the great fortune of having him as my High School art teacher for both my Junior and Senior years at Lakewood High School, and I followed him to Cooper School of art in Cleveland when I graduated in 1971 when he took over as Director there. His encouragement and teaching have seen me through a 50+ year career in art. Thank you, Mr. Hruby. And thank you to his family.

Time passes so fast. Its hard to believe five years have gone by. Joe will always be an important person in my life. His sense of leadership and guidance left a lasting impression. I miss his friendship and our days at Cooper. Rest softly my friend

My condolences to the family.

I'm a graduate of Cooper School of Art. Joe was a great mentor during my time at Cooper. His impact will always be appreciated.

I can think of no other teacher in my life that had such a positive influence on me as Joe! He was my high school art teacher at Lakewood High School in Ohio during the late 1960s. He had such amazing rapport with all his students and his knowledge and passion for art and art history inspired me to go on and pursue a career in art education myself. He was the model for which I fashioned my own style of teaching after. I went on to teach art for 38 years, and not one year went by that I...

Joe was a meticulous and highly educated artist and teacher. He taught art history with deep passion and intellect. I remember doing research on Paul Klee a Swiss German, who had a prolific career as an artist and taught at the Bauhaus for ten years. Joe lent me a book by Klee called The Thinking Eye, which was extremely rare and THE definitive book that captured in Klee's own words, his philosophies and reasoning behind his work. The point to this was that Joe knew the work and the exact...

Dear Mary Ann, you have my deepest condolences, I was shocked to see about Joey in the PD. He was a cousin of mine and I did not see him for many years. I was a little older than him. I helped aunt in the tavern upstairs.
Uncle John lived with us before he was married, lived on East 45th and Pershing.
My dad was the Sign Painter.
God Bless You.

He was an inspiring man, I am pleased to have known him

I'm a graduate of Lakewood High School, Class of '69. I currently live in New York City. One of my friends sent me this site because we both had Mr. Hruby for art history at Lakewood and LOVED his class. He was a great teacher and a great inspiration. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
