Not sure what to say?

My deepest condolences on hearing of Joe´s passing. I worked with him as a neurosurgical nurse in the OR at Peninsula Hospital back in the 70´s. He was a great man, supurb surgeon, and he mentored my early career. I did not learn of his passing until now. I hope this little tribute gives Patricia and his family some measure of comfort. He was a treasure and those who knew and worked with him are grateful for his influence and will forever remember his fun personality. It´s an emptier...

Dear Pat, My wife just saw Joe's obituary on Legacy. Com. I am so sorry to learn that he suffered and was in pain for a long time. I attended both La Salle College and Hahnemann Medical School with Joe. He was always so outgoing and personable. You and Joe actually got married a week after us in August of 1965. Jackie and I last saw you and Joe at a Hahnemann reunion over 25 years ago. We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to you and your family. We will both keep Joe and you and...

Jaqui and Joe,
I'm sorry for your loss.

My friend, Joe Izzo, MD was so fully human -- a brilliant neurosurgeon and man of huge heart. He responded in the spirit of Isaiah -- "Here am I" -- to heal those he knew or never knew, even so-called "enemies." Joe's exquisite character and quick-give is described for all humankind to emulate in "The Saving of Oleg," when he was available night and day to help save the life of a Soviet citizen half-way around the world. Joe will live in me all my life.

Joe loved the Bay Tour

Joe was a real gentleman. I first met him by chance by walking into a jury trial and listening to testimony. I was struck by how he used his testimony to teach the jury about the injury and the effects it had on the injured person's life.

I went up to him after his testimony and asked him if he'd be an expert for me in a case where my client got hit by a careless forklift driver who was carrying a load over a sidewalk. I did not have a lot of money at the time. He reduced his fees...
