Joseph Anthony Janik, DDS, "Bucky," entered eternal life December 2nd, 2016, at age 86. A long time resident of Glendale, he is survived by his wife of 61 years Nancy (Kraus) and his four daughters – Grace Janik (William Matthaeus), Christine (Mike) Grintjes, Cynthia (Richard) Palmersheim, and Julia (Kurt) Jensen. He was also blessed with three grandsons – Jake Grintjes, Alex Matthaeus, and Scott Palmersheim.
Joe was the fourth child of immigrant parents from Slovakia. He was the only one to go to college, first at State Teachers (UWM) for pre-dent and then Marquette Dental School. After graduating in 1955, Joe and Nancy were married at St. Monica's and spent the next two years in Wiesbaden, Germany in the Air Force practicing dentistry. He left as a captain and came back to Milwaukee where he taught at Marquette Dental School and also started a 57-year private practice. He loved his work and his patients.
Dr. Janik was a past president of the Greater Milwaukee Dental Association and a Central Regional Board examiner for 10 years.
He was a champion racquetball player until his knees gave out. Fishing in Canada and hunting at the Black Slough were his passion, especially with precious dogs "Duke" and "Hazel."
St. Eugene's Parish involved him with lecturing and distributing ministries for many years. His Catholic faith was central in his life.
A special thanks to Dr. Bill Matthaeus for his loving care and assistance.
Memorial visitation will be Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM followed by the celebration of Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM, both held at St. Eugene's Catholic Church, 7600 N. Port Washington Road, Fox Point.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe's name to St. Eugene, Fox Point, or the Wisconsin Humane Society, Milwaukee.

Dear Janik family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Dr. J was a great character and neighbor. I'm am doubly sorry I missed his service. My children and I all have stories of him and his big truck, his obvious adoration of all the dogs around him, and me most particularly, his generosity and positive attitude toward my children as more than bothersome neighbor kids. We all missed him when we moved. We shared some of our Dr J stories on Christmas when we learned of his death. Please remember...

Nancy Janik& Family: Kindly accept our condolences on the passing of Dr. Joe Janik. We were one of Dr. Joe's first patients...when he opened his office on w. Villard St. He was one of the finest dentists we ever met...and a wonderful person. We enjoyed our conversations...even though they were one-sided most of the time. When brushing my teeth, and looking in the mirror, I'm impressed with the work Dr. Joe did on my teeth, especially when I smile at the girls as they pass by...they usually...

This makes me so sad. I was referred to Dr Janik when Dr Benes retired. At that time, he was close to my apartment on the East Side. I continued to go to his practice even after i moved further away. He was so nice and happy and genuine. He eventually took on 2 of my 3 kids and it was so sad when the "commute" to his office became too much and we had to switch to a dentist closer to home. My prayers go out to you and your family. I will fondly remember him, his faith, and the pride his family...
