Feerick Funeral Home - Shorewood Obituary

Passed away after a battle with leukemia on July 16, 2024, at the age of 55. Loving husband and best friend of Stacy (nee Schwarze) LaPrad. Beloved son of Carolyn and the late John “Jack” LaPrad. Cherished brother of John (Sandy) LaPrad, Sr. Julia LaPrad, Jeff (Michelle) LaPrad, Jeannie Ballard, Ken (Kathy) LaPrad, and James “Jamo” (Annette) LaPrad. Further survived by loving nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Joe was a brilliant light that we lost too soon. He loved the outdoors and especially time on or in the water. He liked to brag that he had been on all five Great Lakes in storms; he had an odd sense of fun at times. Joe enjoyed playing with his young nephews and nieces (and great nephews and nieces), helping them cause mischief while directing any blame onto himself. He enjoyed being creative: woodworking, painting, or imagining crazy, impractical ideas with his friends. He was constantly curious, spending hours drilling through Wikipedia, following whatever thread caught his attention. Joe had a great laugh and people were naturally drawn to his good humor and kindness.

Joe’s greatest love was Stacy, and he was hers. They reconnected eleven years ago, after having dated on and off after college. Joe was happiest when they were spending time together. They travelled extensively, took long wandering walks through Milwaukee, and spent endless hours simply enjoying each other’s company. It was clear to all who knew them that they were made for each other.

Private family services will take place in Michigan. A celebration of life will be held at a yet to be determined date. Memorial contributions may be made to Hunger Task Force.

Not sure what to say?

I'll miss you, Joe. You invented selfies before it was cool.

Gone too soon. We'll keep our memories close of all the time spent laughing and planning escapades. Truly missed...

Celebrating Christmas

Joe will leave a big void and his personality was so full of love and life. He made us always smile, always saw the best in others, was very positive and loved in a big way. He and Stacy were an amazing couple. They fit like two perfect puzzle pieces. Our Mediterranean Cruise with them together was a joy.

Joe was very smart (a nuclear engineer), compassionate and silly but also kind. We were so blessed he was a part of our family.

It’s hard to say good bye to such an...
