To Joe's loved ones, I'm so sorry for your loss. At the same time, I'm happy to see what a full life and enjoyable retirement Joe had. I met Joe not long after coming to Alaska in 1977 working for the USGS-National Petroleum Reserve Alaska program. I was struck by how warm and personable Joe was, with such a fine sense of humor. He was great to be around.

Joe was the manager of the USGS Conservation Division office, in January, 1978, when I started working for the government. He always had a smile, and a kind word whenever anyone would meet him.We missed him, after he left, and enjoyed the time spent working for him.Our prayers and condolences to his family.

I would imagine there was not much he did not accomplish and those of us still left here in the...

Joe was my very first boss when I started at USGS in May 1979. I enjoyed working for him, he was a nice man who was really fun and full of good stories. I remember him with great fondness.

Prayers and thoughts from his Alaska office of over 20 years ago. Most people here now did not know Joe, but he was with the early years of the OCS Program in Alaska, for USGS and MMS.
