Joseph A. "Joe" Joniec passed suddenly on July 6, 2021. Awesome husband of Beth (Waldron).  The proudest girl dad of Kirstie McGugan (Patrick) and Kelsey. Predeceased by his parents Joe and Marie (Zalot) Joniec. Brother of Ken Joniec and Kathy Benner (Joe). Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Son in law to Tom and Eileen (deceased) Waldron. Brother in law to Tom and MaryBeth Waldron. Dog dad to Brogan and George to his grandpup Hudson. Honorary dad to Kirstie and Kelsey's friends. Joe was a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades DC 21/Local 2011 for over 37 years. Joe was also the wallcovering instructor for the Finishing Trades Institute. Joe loved life, his family, friends, Disney, String Bands and music. Under the guidance of his parents the band The Exceptions was formed. Joe played drums for The Exceptions for over 25 years. After leaving The Exceptions he formed the band Masquerade. He loved nothing more than giving people joy and fun playing music for them. He always said the greatest compliment he could ever get was that people's feet hurt at the end of Masquerade's night. The people he played music with became his family. He loved nothing more than Saturday nights with his Masquerade family - his girls and his brothers. Winter time meant Mum time. Wednesday nights and Sundays with the men of Quaker City String Band were priceless to him. Marching on Broad Street alongside his friends always brought a smile to his face, but spending time with his girls on 2 Street was always the highlight of New Years Day. If it wasn't music keeping Joe busy you could always find him at the DC 21 Union Hall or the Training Center teaching, mentoring or hanging wallpaper. Joe was one busy guy for sure, but his family was always priority one for him! If he wasn't working you could find him on the beach or at Disney with his favorite people. He enjoyed nothing more than hanging with his family, his friends, his girls and their many friends listening to the live music of one of his fellow musicians bands. For those that knew him he was never more than a phone call away to help you with whatever you needed. We hope you will join us in remembering his life, sharing your stories and smiling. We will miss you George. Family, friends, fellow members of The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, members of Quaker City String Band, fellow band members, and all who loved Joe are invited to celebrate his life on Tuesday evening July 13th from 6 PM to 8 PM at Louis A. DiGiacomo Funeral Home, Inc., 1055 Southampton Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116, and on Wednesday July 14th from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in St. Christopher's Church 13301 Proctor Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116.  Joe's funeral mass will begin at 10:30 AM and his interment will be held privately.   In lieu of flowers and to continue Joe's love of music, your contributions to RockToTheFuture.org c/o Rock to the Future 1201 N. 3rd St #283, Philadelphia PA 19122 would be appreciated by his family.  To share your fondest memories of Joe please visit PhillyFunerals.com. Not sure what to say?

My condolences to Joe’s family. I knew Joe as “Junior,” when he frequented our textile offices to offer us wallcovering training. On those days, before everyone else got to work, I sat with Junior while he prepped our wallcovering. We talked about work but also about life. In between work, he told me about his kids and his family, and about how lucky he felt to have them. He lit up when he spoke about his trips to Disney. He offered me great advice, usually starting with “I’ll tell you what...

We were so sorry to hear of Joseph's passing. Though we know he has gone home to God, it is still difficult for the loved ones left behind. Joseph and his family and friends are in our thoughts during this difficult time. The Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth are praying for all of you, now and always.

Dear Beth, so very sorry for you and your family's loss. I only knew Joe via reputation and it is an honor to be associated with him via the fraternity of drummers. take care Rob and Deb Sharkey

So sad to hear of Joe's untimely passing. I grew up with Joe and the Joniec's on Oakmont St. Our parents went out every weekend and my sister and I took turns babysitting, even though we weren't much older than Joe, Kenny and Kathy. There was a full size drum set in the little row home living room and I sometimes liked to try to play without success. Such wonderful memories! I was so happy to run into Joe when he played at Keenan's and chat with him on Facebook about Disney trips. He...

To Beth and family, I want to offer my sincerest condolences on Joe’s passing. I believe I saw one of the first performances by The Exceptions when they were about 12 years old, around 1972. They played at a christening party I attended. Fast forward a few years to Joe starting as an apprentice for Polis Wallcovering. We were working on a job together and I told him I saw him play at the christening, Joe, always seeing the humor in things, laughed and said, “yeah, we were a bunch of...
