Not sure what to say?

Dearest Maggie, your Joe was a very remarkable man, so obviously loved by many. Let that love wrap around you now and give you peace and comfort.

I was back in South Bend, my home town (Central Catholic HS, 1953) and attended a large downtown celebration (the Polish festival?). As I wandered from booth to booth, I came upon Mayor Kernan also enjoying the festivities. I said, "Hello Mayor Kernan," and put out my hand to shake. He held out his hands, one holding a hot dog and the other a coke. We chatted a moment and parted. Remember Joe from high school and he was a really genuine person even then. Our prayers are with the family. Patrick Bajdek Class of 62

So sorry to hear of his passing I am a retired postal worker and he would come to my window and it was such an honor to wait on him. Always felt Blessed and just a good feeling when he would smile and wave upon completion of the service. He was a good man and will be truly missed.

Thank you Joe for your services to all. Veterans Forever, Joe was always there for the members of Plumber's & Pipefitter's Local 172.

Until Tech Duinn...my love and admiration...

Joe meant so much to countless people... personal friends, all who worked with him and all Hoosiers who benefited by his legacy of leadership and kindness for all. Maggie and Joe Kernan touched the lives of so many. Our hearts go out to you Maggie. He was truly a good man.

He laid the ground work for the current renascence of South Bend. I know because I was there as President of Redevelopment. Although he and I had our occasional differences he was always a class act (with a dynamite sense of humor). There are no words that can fill the hole in your heart. The...

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.
