It was my honor to be able to call him Uncle Joe. Although I called him uncle he was far more. He is part of my family's history that made us who we are today. Ron and I first met Kathy's dad, Joe, at a Deadwood baseball game. The team wasn't doing well, but Joe was being positive and cheering them on. In fact, each visit to California included attending the Deadwood baseball games. He never lost enthusiasm at the games, win or loose. From the beginning,Joe's patience, sense of humor, and genuine concern for people made him an enduring fellow. We had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Joe and seeing him when he would come out to visit his daughter Kathy. The times I saw him I could count on my two hands, but that was enough to know what a remarkable man he was. Very gracious, open, caring, honest, genuine; his heart was always in the right place and he will be forever remembered and missed. I thank God for the opportunity of knowing him. I am very fortunate to have had the pleasure of knowing Joe and working with him for more than 20 years. He was a very special man, a great and skillful teacher, as well as a wonderful friend. I never had the honor of meeting Joe in person but I did have the pleasure of speaking to him numerous times on the phone and in letters to one another. I reached out to you to help me with trying to get my father Charlie into the Hall of Fame along side you. I was lucky enough to have grown up in rockland lake,i had great parents and great friends .the klopchin family were my best friends mrs k fed the army many times and uncle joe played ball with us every dang time he had a chance to.we were blessed to live where we did and have the quality of people around us.he will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
