Joseph John Kurian, 85, of Rumley, died Saturday morning, August 22, 2015, at UP Health System Marquette. He was born July 30, 1930 in Marquette and was raised by his grandparents, Martin and Mary (Haniszpal) Kurian. He was a graduate of Graveraet High School and was a lifelong area resident. Joseph worked many years as a carpenter and mason. He built a number of homes and business buildings in the area. He will be remembered as a "Jack of all Trades". He had resided in Rumley the past 35 years and was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Trenary. Joseph also had served in the National Guard. He is survived by six children, Susan (Walter) Racine of Harvey, Dale (Vicki) Kurian of McMillan, Noreen (Paul) Collins of Negaunee, William (Debra) Kurian of Gwinn, Lori (Herb LaMere) Kurian of Negaunee and Todd (Sarah) Kurian of Negaunee; grandchildren, Shane, Kim and Damian Racine, Shelby (Don) Houle, Shawn (Brenda) Kurian, Jody Kurian, Helen Collins, Emma Collins, Amanda, Jacque, Lilly & Zoe Kurian; and companion, Barbara Brand of Ishpeming. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents and an infant daughter, Colleen Kurian. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 5 p.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee with Rev. Steve Solberg officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
