Hermann Funeral Home - Stockton Obituary

Joseph Francis Lamm, 94 of Stockton, IL passed away October 11, 2017 at Waverly Place in Stockton. Joe was born September 22, 1923 in Freeport; the son of the late Frank and Clara (Bangasser) Lamm. On August 28, 1948 Joseph and Mary Ilene Hill were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elizabeth.

Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Most important were his faith, family and friends. He enjoyed farming with his wife and was very generous, always willing to help anyone in need. Joe was able to “fix” almost anything. He will be remembered as a quiet man with a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous smile on his face. He was a member of the Marriage Encounter Group, Volunteer Hospice of NW Illinois and an active 60 year member of Holy Cross Church.  After retiring, Joe and his wife continued to live on the family farm.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ilene; his three daughters, Mary Horstmeier, Linda (Mark) Winter, and Jolene Wingert (Rich Wagner); his son, Mark Lamm; his twelve grandchildren, Amber Horstmeier, Aaron (Mikki) Horstmeier, Eli (Julie) Horstmeier, Isaac Horstmeier, Marcy (Tim) Miller, Andrew (Stephanie) Winter, Brian Winter, Ethan Winter, Brent Wingert, Jacob (Megan Hanks) Wingert, Kristian (Ben) Hinrichs, and Andrea Yaeger; his 10 great grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Mary Lamm; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Robert, Karl, William, Arthur, Louis, and Kenneth; his sister, Mary Ellen Kohlbauer; six sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, son-in-law Lyle Wingert and grandson, Joshua Yaeger.

Visitation will be at Holy Cross Church on Monday, October 16, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and Tuesday, October, 17 from 9:30 to 11:00 am. The funeral service will be held on October 17 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Michael Morrissey officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Freeport. A memorial fund has been established.

We are sorry for your loss. Joe was a really good guy and I enjoyed visiting with him and Ilene. May God comfort you, and your memories of him bring warmth in your hearts.

Ilene, My sincerest condolences for your loss. You and Joe were so kind to Al and I when we lived up on Neutral Ridge. When Al (Niemeyer) passed in 1982 you and Joe were right there for me. A kindness I will never forget. Thank you for your generosity and friendship. May the Lord comfort you as you go through this time. My hugs are with you.
