I knew Joe through our participation in the American Lung Bike Trek to Shakertown. We shared a room during the trek, and always discussed technical aspects of electronic communications far into the night. Joe knew and could teach the deep concepts. I will miss his friendship.

I knew Joe through the Amateur Radio Transmitting Society of Louisville. I posted this on their Facebook page: "One of the most decent people I have ever met....even if he was a ham.
He had a marvelous voice with a rich timbre to it. He could have been a great radio announcer or personality back in the glory days of 50,000 watt WHAS. He forgot more about electronics and radio than most of us will ever learn.
He will be greatly and truly missed.
It's a sad day for Amateur Radio."...
