Joseph Mazzotta Jr.

I attended Manchester High from 1959-1963. I took all four machine shop courses offered by Joe. I believe this shop program led me to become an engineer and ultimately to manage one of Pratt and Whitney's and Carrier's factories. About twenty years ago I saw Joe in front of his Keeney street home and stopped to tell him he was very responsible for me to chose the field i ultimately picked and I wanted to personally tell him of his influence in my career path and the success I had.

I graduated in 1982. Mr Mazzotta was extremely well liked and respected as a teacher and principal. His guidance helped many of succeed in life. I hope his family knows the incredible impact he had on so many lives. May he rest in peace.

I was a sophomore at St Thomas Aquinas HS, New Britain in 1961 when Coach Mazzotta became the school's first Cross Country and Track and Field coach. As a former hammer thrower at CCSC, he did not have much experience with runners. However, through his leadership, enthusiasm and research on running he earned the respect and confidence of the teams. On May 10th of 1964, we were competing with 3 other teams at CCSC as underdogs. I met Joe as a teacher in 1967 and became fast friends. I helped Joe build his backroom of his home the day his last child was born. Over the many years Joe and his wife Rose would have coffee and talk of family as our families meant so much to us all. Joe's love of family and friendship guided me through the years now 58 years.
