McCARTHY, Joseph Edward "Joe" Joseph "Joe" Edward McCarthy, 84, of Hilton Head, South Carolina, a retired finance executive at Olin Corporation, died Friday, April 13, 2018, in Austin, TX after losing his battle with cancer. Joe was born in Port Chester, New York on August 11, 1933 to Mary Hayes McCarthy and Thomas McCarthy, and was raised there along with his three older brothers and younger sister. He graduated from Iona College in 1956 and then proudly served as a Captain in the US Marine Corps before leaving to get his MBA in Finance from Loyola University in Chicago. He married Marilyn Haberkorn in 1962, and they together raised their three children in a suburb of Chicago and in Wilton, Connecticut before retiring and moving to Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. In retirement, he and Marilyn enjoyed a life of friends, golf, and frequent visits from family. Besides golf and family, he loved his Irish heritage, cheering on his Iona Gaels, long walks and bike rides, reading history books, playing the piano, listening to classical music, watching old movies, and playing checkers with his grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife Marilyn, daughters Carolyn Bryant (Scott) and Patricia Bell (Charles), son Joseph McCarthy, Jr. (Jo Ann), and seven grandchildren Joseph, Nicholas, Thomas, Hayes, Caroline, Lucas and Jack. He will be sorely missed. A funeral mass for family and friends will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church at 5455 Bee Cave Road, West Lake Hills, Texas 78746.
