Joseph William McGuire

My mother, Marjory McGuire, Joe's sister-in-law (wife of his brother John), and I wondered what had happened when her Christmas card to him was returned with no forwarding address. Just looked online and found this obituary. I know my mother enjoyed her phone conversations with Uncle Joe after my father's death in 2002, and we both enjoyed his humorous letters.
So sorry to hear about his death, your cousin Joan McGuire.

I met Joe when I was a beginning assistant professor at what was then called the Graduate School of Administration at the University of California, Irvine.
Joe was one of the most generous and kindest colleagues I have had the good fortune to know. His wit was legendary, always insightful but never cutting.
I left the university years ago and have missed Joe ever since. Sending heartfelt sympathies to his family and all those whose life he touched.

Joe was my senior colleague for many years and I remember him very fondly. I always used to try to sit next to him in faculty meetings because he would have a funny and insightful running commentary. He will always be my ideal of what a great scholar should be.
