We are so sorry for your loss

Dear Judy and Family I'm so sorry to hear of Joe's passing, he was one of a kind. My Mom and Dad loved Joe and the Wolverine, they spent alot of time there, as well as I have through out the years. He always wanted to make sure everything was great from the time you sat down thru the end. I would go in during the 80's band days with a beautiful friend regularly, he barred her because there were too many fights with all the guys after her. I'll never forget him. Rest assured, you had one of...

My deepest condolences to the Merkel family, especially to Joe's wife Judy. May God be beside you, where your husband has been for these past 46 years, and guide you in way you should go.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
And may all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

I spent 6 yrs as Joe's neighbor when I managed the gas station on the corner. I always looked forward to his visits to the gas station and he always had a warm welcome when I would visit the Wolverine. Joe, you will be missed. RIP my friend.

Peace and love to your family from the Helmer family.

I was so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I was a little kid when Joe and Judy lived in Owosso, but I remember Joe from my uncle Jack's farm. No one was ever a stranger for long around Joe. He will be sorely missed by all, including this old Owosso boy. My prayers go out to the entire Merkel family.

It was heartbreaking to learn of Joe's passing. Explaining this loss will be very hard to my children as they always asked for Joe everytime we went into the Wolverine and Trick-or-Treating as Joe treated them like his own grandkids and was interested in their schooling and sports. The Wolverine and chelsea will not be the same, but the memories will live on forever. Our condolences go out the the Merkel family. RIP Joe, The Mesnard Family

My deepest condolences to the Merkel family. Joe was a good friend to our family and his generosity will never be fully calculated...which he wouldn't have any other way...Rest now Joe.

To all the family, I pray that all your memories help ease your pain. My prayers are for you at this difficult time. I have many memories of Joe, but the very best one is from 6-7 years ago.

One day two good 'ole boys, who were brothers and in their late 80's, went on a drive and stopped in The Wolverine to see their buddy,
Joe.

Joe sat them at his table, conversed with them,
fed them and then gifted them brand new
cowboy hats. Those two old...
