Not sure what to say?

Dear Maureen,
Your father was my uncle, and although I only met him a few times, he made a lasting impression on me. I remember the fun we had at IrishFest in Milwaukee, the three of us: my father John, Joe, and me, in the late 1980s. Several years later, my husband, my father and I made a trip to Berea to visit Joe, and had a marvelous time there. The last time I saw Joe was at a Mooney family reunion in Shell Rock, Iowa, in 2002. Although it was a bittersweet reunion, since my father...

In a perfect world, everyone would have one teacher like Joe Mooney.

Joe was a great friend to my parents Nate and Verna and his kids were my best friends. When I look back fondly on growing up in Racine I will always remember the great times with Joe, Molly and their kids.

Joe was the most memorable teacher I ever had. He inspired his students to achieve excellence. I will always remember his intelligence and sense of humor.

For those of us who were hard-core "theater freaks" in high school, the JL Mooney theater was our home away from home, and Mr. Mooney made it a comfortable and supportive place to learn and to hang out. He wasn't one to mince words or always spare feelings when there was something to be said, but we all knew how much he cared about our productions, our classes, and, most importantly, about us. Thanks to him, there are many, many former Horlick students who have carried a love for the theater...

He was a wonderful teacher, and a good neighbor. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.

As a former co-worker in the Horlick Theatre Department, I appreciated and admired Joe's talent. He was a great example of being a survivor. My sympathy to all his family.

Joe was a wonderful man and a generous co-worker at Horlick High School.

To the family
Joseph Mooney was a wonderful person who gave his all to making sure students not only learned the class material but took something away for life. He was a good man, a wonderful teacher and will be missed.
