Joyce and family, I was so sorry to hear the news about Joe. Difficult to realize he is gone. He positively impacted many lives through his leadership at Sara Lee, likely many more than he and you are aware of. For me personally, he was always supportive and encouraging as I took on various jobs. The last one with Sara Lee was when I went to Paris, France for what was initially to be a short term role, but went on for 8 years. That was a great personal experience for my family members...

Joe gave our family a warm welcome when we moved to Winston-Salem in 1976. My husband Vail was part of the original L'eggs team and loved working with Joe. My deep condolences to Joyce, Rachel, and Len.

I remember Joe as a very friendly and popular classmate at Clinton High School and very smart! Always enjoyed seeing him again at reunions of our class.

Joe and Joyce have been my friends and neighbors in Key Largo, FL for many years. What a wonderful couple and so well liked by everyone they know. So sorry to lose Joe. He was a real gentleman, always a smile and so very kind and thoughtful . Loved playing croquet with him, he was an excellent player. Joe will be missed by all friends in Key Largo Anglers Club and the Coral Gables Yacht Club.

Joe was VP of Credit Administration when I came to work for L´eggs Products in 1974. I remember when there were so many changes happening at L´eggs and even though I was `low man on the totem poll´, I became a little concerned! I would pass Joe in the hall and say `Did you see my name on any list?´ He would smile, laugh, and say `Nope..,don´t think so but you´ll be the first to know if it shows up!´ Joe had a great sense of humor and loved to throw you a curve ball every now and then! ...

,Joe and I grew up together in Clinton, SC, living just one block apart. We rode bicycles and played marbles together. We went to Florida Street Elementary School, Hampton Avenue Junior High, and Clinton High School together. Joe was smart. I'm thankful for childhood memories.

Joyce, I'm so very sad for you. I hope the good memories of Joe and your life together will give you some comfort. I will continue to think of you and wish you well, from afar, in often in coming weeks, months and thereafter. With profound fondness - Maggie

Rachel, we are keeping you and your family in our prayers.
